China is trying to contain the outbreak of Omicron prior to the Winter Olympics

Prior to the February opening of the Winter Olympics in China, authorities are trying to contain the outbreak of the Omicron coronavirus variant in southern cities.

Zhuhai officials stopped bus services in the city after discovering seven highly contagious variants and advised residents to stay home.

In the next week or two, Americans will begin receiving a free, rapid home coronavirus test from the US government. Residents must request a test on the designated website. The test was almost impossible to find in the store.

The Indian Ministry of Health said on Saturday it recorded 268,833 new COVID cases, 4,631 more than recorded on Friday.

On Friday, the Kremlin postponed approval of an unpopular law that would restrict access to public places without evidence of COVID-19 vaccination amid a surge in new infections.

The Associated Press said the bill would give Russians entering certain public places a QR code confirming either vaccination, recent recovery from COVID-19, or a medical exemption from immunity. I am reporting that I requested that.

Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova said the measures were withdrawn due to uncertainty about its efficacy because it was created in response to a delta variant of the virus that causes COVID-19. Omicron variants are now causing a surge in new infectious diseases in the country.

She said 783 cases of Omicron variants have been identified throughout Russia. Moscow authorities have reported 729 confirmed cases of Omicron in the capital since 20 December.

Meanwhile, a French court has suspended the requirement for outdoor masks on the streets of Paris. This requirement was imposed on December 31st to curb the spread of Omicron variants.

On Wednesday, a court in Versailles suspended similar outdoor masking requirements in the Yvelines area.

The Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center reported earlier Saturday that 323.7 million COVID cases were recorded and 5.5 million died. The center said it had received 9.6 billion vaccines.
