Canadian Musician Wins Chopin International Piano Competition

Warsaw (Reuters) – Canadian musician Bruce Xiaoyu Liu won the Grand Prize at the prestigious International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw on Thursday.

This decision was made after several hours of deliberation by 17 international juries. The winner will receive a prize of € 40,000 ($ 46,620) and a gold medal.

The second prize was Alexander Gaziev and Kyohei Sorita, and Martin Garcia Garcia was third.

Named after the famous Polish composer Frederic Chopin, the contest began in 1927. Held every 5 years.

Its 18th edition, scheduled for 2020, has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
