Invitation to the Apple event in March 2022

Apple is holding its first launch event this year on Tuesday, where it is expected to announce a new iPhone, iPad and possibly several new Macs.

The launch will be broadcast live from Apple Apple Park headquarters in Cupertino, California, as will all of the company’s launch events from 2020.

Apple’s spring release is less important to the company than its traditional fall events, which showcase new iPhone models ahead of the holiday shopping season. Autumn iPhones are more expensive and more profitable for Apple. Tuesday’s event came after a similar spring launch last year, when Apple announced the new iPad Pro, a redesigned desktop iMac and AirTags.

Here’s what’s expected at Apple’s spring launch on Tuesday, according to analysts and media reports:

Apple is expected to update the iPhone SE with 5G support, a faster processor and a better camera, according to Bloomberg News. But the most important question for investors is whether Apple will keep the same price as the current $ 399 iPhone SE, which was launched two years ago, or upgrade it and continue to sell the 2020 model at an even lower price. This could help Apple gain market share against cheap Android phones that sell for less than $ 399.

Wedbush analyst Dan Ives wrote in a note on Monday that the new iPhone SE can stand out compared to affordable phones, and that there is a “deferred demand” for this model worldwide.

Apple released the new high-end iPad Pro last spring and updated the iPad Mini and regular iPad last fall.

This leaves the average iPad child, the iPad Air for $ 599, as the model best suited for the upgrade. The current model has a 10.9-inch screen and a fingerprint sensor built into the power button.

Apple may release a new version of the iPad Air with the same overall design this spring, TF Securities analyst Min Chi-Kuo said in a note earlier this year, adding Apple’s latest mobile chip, additional 5G support and improved cameras. .

Apple’s advertising slogan at Tuesday’s event was “take a look at performance,” indicating that at least one new device will have significant speed or power. So maybe we’ll see new Macs.

Apple has moved the line of laptops and desktops to its own chips called the M1, not to Intel chips. Last year, Apple released the iMac and MacBook Pro with its chips. In late 2020, it released the MacBook Air, Mac Mini and one MacBook Pro model.

Many of these devices are starting to appear in the corresponding update window, although Apple has not yet announced a successor to its M1 chip family. In addition, Apple fans are demanding an increase in the iMac version with Apple chips and a 27-inch display.

Apple news site 9to5Mac reported last week, citing sources, that Apple is also working on a new model with a fast chip, which in addition to the new external display could be called Mac Studio. However, Apple is also holding an annual developer conference in June called WWDC, which could be a better approach to launching expensive professional-level Macs.

Apple is also likely to announce the release date of its next major software update for iPhone and iPad at the event.

Apple has been testing iOS 15.4 since January, and it will be the second largest update of the year after the not-yet-announced iOS 16, which will be unveiled in June at WWDC and released in the fall.

iOS 15.4 will include several new features, including the ability to unlock the phone with a mask, new emoticons and Apple’s new payment product, which allows anyone with an iPhone to accept credit card payments without additional equipment.
