The incident occurred in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights district just before 3 am on Monday. Investigators say three vehicles participated in illegal street races.

According to police, the driver of the red Dodge Charger lost control of the vehicle, jumped over the curb and crashed into Anya Brandon, who was standing at the bus stop.

Witness Josh Moya told ABC7 New York that a man with Brandon rushed to her side and tried to move her before she took her last breath.

Brandon, 20, was taken to Kings County Hospital, where he was sentenced to death from an injury.

According to officials, a 23-year-old man suffered an abrasion on his leg and was hospitalized in a stable condition.

The Dodge Charger driver abandoned his destroyed car in the middle of the street and jumped into another car to escape. Police are looking for a hit-and-run suspect.

The accident also injured a 23-year-old man who was with Brandon at the time.

“I want to tell him he should take care of himself,” he said. “You know you did something wrong. Get up and face the music.”

Friends and relatives have posted a heartfelt message on Facebook to mourn Brandon’s premature death.

“I was just talking to you. I don’t even know what to say … It’s just peaceful and beautiful,” wrote one.

So far, the NYPD has not released a description of the suspect, nor has it released a description of the vehicle that expelled the suspect from the scene. In this case, no arrest has been made.

Police told CBS New York that they would face a number of accusations, including leaving the scene of a fatal accident when Dodge’s driver was arrested.
