‘One of the Most Violent and Aggressive’ Jan 6 Mob Sentenced to More Than 7 Years in Prison

Man described by prosecutors as ‘one of the most violent and aggressive participants’ January 6, 2021 attack on the US Capitol He was sentenced Thursday to more than seven years in prison.

Kyle Fitzsimmons, 39, got into a scuffle with police officers during the riot and beat them on five separate occasions within 10 minutes, officials said.One of the assaults gave a Capitol Sergeant injuries that ended his career and changed his life Aquilino Gonnell.

Fitzsimmons was convicted last September of 11 counts, including seven felonies.

During the riot, Fitzsimmons threw an unstringed bow at a group of officers, hitting one in the helmet, officials said. He also tried to pull a fallen policeman into the mob. As Gonell tried to protect the fallen policeman, Fitzsimmons grappled him, inflicting a permanent injury to Gonell’s shoulder.

Fitzsimmons also charged into the group of policemen, swinging his fists wildly. After leaving the Capitol grounds, he told others to “get in there” and fight the police.

Goner needed surgery after the attack. Gonell previously told CBS that he was in the middle of a riot despite serving in the Iraq War. thought he was going to die.

“He ended my law enforcement career,” Gonell wrote. Victim Impact Statement. “My injury has prevented me from doing the job I have been training for all my life, which I love, and I will not receive the promotion to Lieutenant, which I prepared and passed as I recovered. He made my life worse. I may never fully recover.”

Images of Fitzsimmons quickly gained attention after the riots. He wore a white butcher’s coat. Fitzsimmons was “blooded after another mob attack on a police officer failed.”

Fitzsimmons is one of more than 1,000 people arrested for crimes related to the Capitol riot.

Prosecutors had asked Fitzsimmons to be ordered supervised release for three years after serving 188 months in prison. They asked him to fine him $26,892. Fitzsimmons was sentenced to 87 months in prison and 36 months of supervised release. The judge ordered $2,000 in damages.

“I apologize to this court, my family and others for the disappointment I have caused.” Fitzsimmons said during his sentencing.
