London (Reuters) -Kate of the British Royal Family, Duchess of Cambridge, joined Emma Raducanu, the new Queen of Tennis in the United Kingdom, on Friday to celebrate the achievements of the newly crowned US Open Champion.
18-year-old Raducanu became famous this month after becoming the first female Grand Slam champion in Britain for 44 years.
She joined forces with Kate, the wife of Prince William, the grandson of Queen Elizabeth, to play a doubles match at a special event celebrating the new British tennis champion.
Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid, who won the men’s wheelchair doubles at the US Open, and Joe Salisbury, who won the men’s doubles, also met the Duchess.
Avid tennis player Kate called the player’s victory “amazing” when he showed off his forehand in a Navy tennis outfit for a knock-up at the British National Tennis Center in southwest London.
She is a patron of the Lawn Tennis Association and is often found in the Royal Box at Wimbledon.
Raducanu’s victory, a fairy tale from the qualifying round to the US Open, was salute by Queen Elizabeth.
