LOS ANGELES (Variety.com) – Robert Pattinson’s grumpy superhero adventure “The Batman” has once again triumphed at the box office.

The film grossed $ 66 million in its second release weekend, boosting its national account to $ 238.5 million. After just 10 days on the big screen, “The Batman” ranks as the highest-grossing film of 2022, as well as the second highest-grossing film since the inception of COVID-19. Only “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” which has grossed $ 792 million in North America, has made the most money at the box office in the past two years.

Ticket sales for “The Batman” have dropped 41% since its debut, a better hold than most comics, especially in times of pandemic. Other COVID-era releases, such as “The Suicide Squad,” “Eternals,” “Black Widow,” and “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” dropped between 53% and 71% in their sophomore releases. .

Positive reviews and strong word of mouth led the audience to return to “The Batman,” starring Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman and Paul Dano as Riddler. Directed by Matt Reeves, the PG-13 “The Batman” – which lasts three stunning hours – takes a hard look at the early days of Bruce Wayne as “the greatest detective in the world.”

The $ 200 million budget for “The Batman” was a much-needed commercial success for Warner Bros. After releasing its entire 2021 movie list simultaneously on HBO Max, “The Batman” is the studio’s first exclusive film release in 12 months. In the future, Warner Bros. announced plans to keep his movies in theaters for 45 days before releasing his new titles on HBO Max.

With no new releases nationwide, “The Batman” has had no trouble dominating the domestic charts. In a distant second place, Tom Holland’s “Uncharted” video game adaptation grossed $ 9.2 million in 3,725 US theaters. After four weeks of launch, the PG-13 action and adventure earned $ 113 million.
