Booker, Paul deliver at the end, the Suns prevent the Warriors 107-103

SAN FRANCISCO – Devin Booker’s two 34.2-second free throws put Phoenix ahead, Draymond Green traveled to turn it around before Chris Paul made a short jump, and the NBA’s best Phoenix Suns beat the Golden State Warriors. by 107-103 on Wednesday night in a furious finish among Western Conference rivals.

Jordan Poole scored 38 points, the best of the season, to equal his career high and also contributed nine rebounds and seven assists. He had five free throws at the end of 1:20.

Poole fired a loose ball over Booker with 39.8 seconds to go and converted two free throws before Booker reached the Suns (62-14) for his ninth straight win.

Paul hit a key jumper with 1:37 for play and finished with 15 points and eight assists, Mikal Bridges scored 22 points and Deandre Ayton added 16 points and 16 rebounds for Phoenix.

Green had a three-point play to tie the 2:25 foul, the Suns committed a three-second violation on the other side, but Golden State didn’t capitalize on that sequence and Paul scored. Green and Jae Crowder had a few words about halfway through the track after the final bell.

Booker scored 22 points but threw 5 of 21, 2 of 8 from long range, while Torrey Craig missed all four 3-point attempts.

The Warriors played better defensively while again without reigning goal-scoring champion Stephen Curry, who suffers a foot injury that cost him seven games.

Poole threw 11 of 22 with seven 3s when Golden State returned home after a 123-95 loss in Memphis on Monday night.

“The hard part about Jordan is that he’s learning to play like Steph,” Suns coach Monty Williams said before the game.

Klay Thompson threw just 5 of 21 and missed nine of his 10 3-point attempts in Golden State’s fourth straight loss, seventh in eight and third in a row at Chase Center.

The Warriors had won the previous two clashes with the Suns, who have a run of eight straight wins. Phoenix overcame throwing 7 of 28 with triples.

The teams divided the season series into two games each.

Golden State coach Steve Kerr told his team during a morning meeting how well the Warriors played defensively in previous games with Phoenix and were able to do so again despite recent struggles.

Curry had not yet resumed basketball activities on the court while working after a sprained left foot, but was working on a treadmill in the water and in the weight room. He could shoot again soon.

“The trend is heading in the right direction,” Kerr said.

Golden State fell to 1-6 without him during this stretch.
