Due to continuous production, the difference between the new cart and the old cart is small. The old Bieffeplast model is certainly different. Surprisingly, the new model looks as collectable as the old model. Snodgrass says the new interest in Bobys isn’t too far from people’s interest in other design greats of the era. All new reproductions of works such as Ray Wilkes’ Chiclet Sofa for Herman Miller, Hay’s Bruno Rey Chair, and Bi-Rite’s 1928 Mallet Stevens Chair all feel like examples of market change. She believes Colombo’s tech, space age, pop fusion, all service features, are the reason why Kurt is alive. “It’s rare,” she says, “that you can nail both things.”

The authenticity of these designs explains why 50-year-old plastic carts are so revived. But Bobby is also riding a wave of larger vintage furniture that has begun to roll before the pandemic. And while offering a new suburban home, it’s possible that he culminated when he found an unlikely furniture hound googled for Toshiyuki Kita’s “wink” chair. That is wonderful. Finding a good one is not so difficult. Forgotten designers are rescued by the archive account. Items that were once limited to Europe can now be shipped to the United States without a third-party carrier. Sure, there aren’t many real vintages, but they weren’t. In addition, in the new world, you can determine if you like something out of context and how it fits into the market and trends. Plastic is now no more surprising than its function. The color seems to be a must-see. It’s clear that we all want Bobby as more chic goes through the door.
