Los Angeles – CNN and Fox News Channel fought for viewers on different election days during the election week, after which they each gained the right to brag.
CNN outperformed Fox in total viewership for the week, averaging 5.9 million viewers to Fox’s 5.7 million. The latter was dominant on Tuesday as President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden confronted each other in a poll.
According to Nielsen statistics, Fox averaged 14.1 million viewers on Tuesday to 9.4 million on CNN and 7.6 million on MSNBC. However, CNN was the top among those watching Biden’s Saturday night speech after the race was called in his favor, with 13.5 million participants.
Although MSNBC’s coverage attracted 9 million viewers, Fox’s audience for the speech was not on the list of Nielsen’s Top 40 Cable Shows.
The average weekly audience for MSNBC was 4.6 million.
Cable channels were the preferred choice for post-election people, as broadcast networks were individually and cumulatively delayed. Their Tuesday viewership was ABC, 6.3 million. NBC, 5.8 million; CBS, 4.5 million.
Viewers also focused on football and repeater shows from CBS’s “Young Sheldon” and “NCIS: Los Angeles” in late-pandemic seasons, each attracting more than 6 million viewers.
NBC with NFL games was the most watched network of the week during Golden Time, reaching an average of 6.33 million viewers. CBS had 4.95 million, Fox Broadcasting Network had 4.3 million, ABC had 4.1 million, Univision had 1.34 million, Telemundo had 1.1 million, Ion Television had 1.09 million, and CW had 580,000.
In addition to the news channel, other cable readers included ESPN with 2.2 million viewers, Hallmark with 1.5 million, and HGTV with 1 million.
ABC’s “World News Tonight” led the evening newscast, with an average weekly audience of 9.4 million. NBC’s “Nightly News” was 8.2 million and “CBS Evening News” was 5.7 million.
