Washington – The White House called on Monday to raise awareness of the federal government’s newly expanded child tax deductions. This deduction will begin to be paid monthly in July to families with children under the age of 17.
Vice President Kamala Harris spoke at the Recreation Center in Pittsburgh as part of a broader push to promote the program in collaboration with churches, schools and other organizations.
“When more families know how they can get relief, that’s the way we can save our children from poverty,” Harris said.
The government has launched a website https://childtaxcredit.gov with details of potential recipients. As part of President Joe Biden’s $ 1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package, eligible families can receive up to $ 3,600 per child under the age of six. The tax credit is $ 3,000 per child between the ages of 6 and 17 per year.
Payments are made monthly in the first month of the program. You can enroll in the program without having to fully file your tax returns.
The program will expire in a year, but Biden is proposing to extend it to 2025 with the ultimate goal of making the program permanent.
