The White House announced the death of a senior member of Al-Qaeda. President Joe Biden confirmed the successful killing of terrorist leader Ayman Al-Zawahiri. In a press conference on Monday, the President said that Zawahiri was killed by a drone strike over the weekend in the Afghan capital of Kabul.
“After continuing to track Zawahri for years under Presidents Bush, Obama and Trump, our Intelligence Community targeted Zawahri earlier this year,” Biden said. “He has moved to Kabul city to be reunited with his immediate family members. After carefully considering the clear evidence and facts of his whereabouts, I have accepted the direct objection to transfer him from the battlefield at once. This mission was well planned, minimizing the risk of harm to other civilians.
Zawahiri played an important role in the organization by making Osama Bin Laden the second leader before taking over their leadership after Bin Laden’s death in 2011. It was also reported that was involved in the planning of the September 11 attacks on Earth. Trade Center and the bombings of two US embassies in Africa claimed the lives of 224 people.
“He was very involved in the planning of 9/11,” Biden said. “One of the most responsible for the attack and killed 2,977 people on American soil. For decades, he was the leader behind the attack on Americans, including the shooting of the USS Cole in 2000 killed 17 American sailors and injured hundreds more.She was instrumental in the shooting of US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, killing 224 and injuring over 4,500. other.
Biden said he would continue to face threats from the group despite Zawahiri’s death.
“My administration will continue to monitor and address threats from Al-Qaeda, no matter where they come from,” he said. “As Commander-in-Chief, my most important responsibility is to protect America in a dangerous world. America did not seek this war on terror. It came to us. We responded with different principles of the decision that formed us for each generation, to protect the innocent, to protect freedom and we keep the light of freedom burning a candle for the rest of the world.

The operation marked the CIA’s first deployment to Afghanistan since Biden withdrew from US forces last year. The death of Zawahiri as a key to international terrorism and can reduce the competition between the Taliban and Al-Qaeda in the Afghan government.
