Baseball legend Hank Aaron, who broke Babe Ruth’s home run record, has died, the Atlanta Braves announced Friday. He was 86 years old.
The Braves said in a statement that Aaron died peacefully while he was asleep. The cause of death was not revealed.
Aaron broke the record for Babe’s 714 home runs in 1974 when he shot at the left fielder bullpen at the Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium. When Aaron hit home run number 715, he had been with the Braves since his debut in 1954, when the team was in Milwaukee.

The Braves said Aaron had less than nine votes to become the first unanimous member of the Hall of Fame.
