The Colorado Avalanche defeated Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1 on Sunday night and won the Stanley Cup in the hockey league.
The Avalanche won the best-of-7 series four games against two, denying Lighting in its quest to become the first team to win three NHL championships in a row since the New York Islanders in the early 1980s.
Tampa Bay star Steven Stamkos put the lightning early in a 1-0 lead with a goal in the first half.
But the Avalanche responded in the second half, midfielder Nathan MacKinnon got to 1-1 when almost two minutes had passed from the half.
Colorado winger Artturi Lehkonen beat Avalanche 2-1 in the middle of the half, the position that would hold when they defeated Tampa Bay at home.
Colorado defender Cale Makar won the Conn Smythe Cup as the most valuable player in the finals.
