Austin’s Russian House Restaurant changes its name

AUSTIN, Texas – As the Russian invasion of Ukraine continues, several Texans held demonstrations in support of Ukraine.

A big change from an Eastern European bar and restaurant in Travis County is not only drawing people’s attention, but also giving them hope.

Varda Monanmour is proud of her legacy. So he opened his own restaurant in Austin.

“Here in Texas, I wanted to create an island of my culture including Russia, Ukraine, Armenia and the post-Soviet states and the Slavic countries,” Monanmour said.

However, after Russia’s attack on Ukraine, he discovered that the name of his restaurant, Russian House, came with a lot of pain. Then he changed it and his restaurant is now called “The House”.

“Because we wanted to make sure everyone felt safe and comforted here,” Monanmour said. Staying away from politics and focusing on the things that unite us do not differentiate us.

The great change gave a sense of hope to people like Anna Chudleigh, who happened to just see for herself.

“I just think it’s very sad what’s going on in Ukraine, and I’ve basically been praying every night and I hope there’s peace,” Chudleigh said.

Monanmour appreciates the opportunity to do what you can to help.

“We are going through difficult times and our job is to spread peace and do a good thing every day for someone who suffers or suffers,” Monanmour said.

In addition to its efforts, The House announced on its Facebook page that it plans to donate proceeds from Ukrainian dishes and Ukrainian vodka to the Red Cross to support those in need.
