Apple launches M1 Pro and M1 Max to expand its chipset family

Apple has been bragging about its own silicon chipsets for several years, and for good reason. The company’s chips have significantly improved the power of all devices, and the 5nm process has taken the industry forward to devise next-generation chipsets. However, Apple is far from content, so today we are launching two new chips, the M1 Pro and M1 Max, which will provide the most powerful performance on any Apple device to date.

The M1 Pro has 33.7 billion transistors, followed by the M1 Max with 57 billion transistors. The M1 Pro has a 16-core neural engine, a CPU with up to 10 cores, and a GPU with 16 cores. This promises up to 32GB of unified memory. The M1 Max has the same number of neural engines and CPU cores, but has doubled the GPU cores to 32 cores. It also offers 64GB of unified memory.

With all of this, M1Pro provides 200GB / s of memory bandwidth and M1Max provides 400GB / s. The M1 Pro can support two displays, but the M1 Max can be used to support up to four external displays.


Both of these support thunderbolt 4 and secure enclaves.

So what does this all mean in real life? Well, both of these chips are certainly more powerful. In fact, these are more powerful than “discrete GPUs on powerful PC laptops”. The statement is ambiguous, but Apple seems quite confident in the power-performance ratio of these new chipsets. It may not be the most powerful chipset on the market, but Apple enthusiasts and developers will definitely love it.

According to the company, the M1 Pro is 70% stronger than last year’s M1. However, in contrast to the successor to the M1, the M1 Pro is essentially a more powerful version of the existing chip. Meanwhile, the M1 Max is Apple’s premium chipset.
