According to Bloomberg, Apple is considering whether to postpone the debut of the long-awaited virtual reality headset until late 2022 at the earliest.
Apple has never publicly confirmed working with headsets, but investors and analysts increasingly believe that such devices will be a major new product category for tech giants. A large team, called the Technology Development Group, is reportedly working on the headset.
According to the report, Apple had previously planned to debut the product at a developer conference, but could delay the product due to overheating, cameras, and software-related issues.
Delays can diminish the enthusiasm for Metaverse, a collection of technologies related to augmented reality and virtual reality that are often publicly endorsed by rivals. Analysts in this sector expected Apple’s product introduction to provide the industry with a bolt of energy.
Delays could also raise questions about Apple’s market development plans. The iPhone Makers Annual Developers Meeting is considered an ideal place for software makers to get excited about creating new product apps.
Headsets are expected to provide a virtual reality experience with a high resolution screen. According to some reports, it can exceed $ 1,000, much higher than current VR headsets such as the $ 299 MetaQuest.
According to Bloomberg’s report, we will focus on communication tools and media consumption. Another augmented reality product with a clear lens is still a few years away, the report added.
According to Bloomberg, Apple has told its suppliers that the product could sell as many as 10 million units in the first year.
Apple officials declined to comment.
