The singer best known for recording Edelweiss passed away peacefully at his home, his family announced Friday.

His loved ones released a statement on his Twitter account, confirming the sad news of his death and praising his “musical legacy.”

They wrote, “Unfortunately we have to share some news that no one wants to hear. We are deeply saddened to have to report that Vince has left us.”

Vince’s hits include “Look Around,” “The Rivers Run Dry,” “Daydream,” and “Doesn’t Anybody know My Name.”

His debut single, ‘The Rivers Run Dry’, released on Piccadilly Records in 1962, brought him to the attention of major labels.

Signed to EMI’s Columbia label in 1965, he produced a string of hits from the 1959 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical The Sound of Music, including a cover version of Edelweiss.

He took the top spot on the 1970s London Palladium, reaching No. 2 in the Top 10 with his hit “Edelweiss”, which remained on the chart for a week.

Over the course of his 60-year career, he has released 25 studio albums and performed in front of fans around the world.
