Americans are returning to buying toilet paper.
Procter & Gamble Co., the largest manufacturer of toilet paper and paper towels in the United States, said it is increasing production as demand increases. This move occurs because some retailers have stated that P & G is limiting the shipment of paper products to stores.
Charmin’s toilet paper and bounty paper towel manufacturers are investing to speed up their production lines, operate their factories 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and increase shipments, a spokeswoman for the company said. P & G declined to comment on restrictions on retailers.
The recent surge in demand occurs months after paper product sales fall below pre-pandemic levels as in-stock Americans stop buying.
According to industry data, manufacturers and retailers, the situation when a panicked customer stocks up a large amount of paper towels and toilet paper and clears the shelves is not as dire as in the early days of the pandemic.
