Who Will Win the 2022 World Cup?

The only time the US hosted the World Cup was in 1994. It’s due to return to America and Dallas, Texas in 2026 with Mexico and Canada also hosting matches. It’d be a far stretch to believe the USA will be the defending champions but who are the favorites with the most prominent sportsbook apps in New Jersey to lift the trophy in 2022?

It would be a massive shock if the US were to win the World Cup in December 2022. Americans who bet on them to qualify had a few nervous moments during qualifying.. Most of those were when the American team played away from home.

Betting on the US to win in Honduras proved to be successful. That game was won 4-1 but their opponents did finish bottom of the qualifying group without winning a single fixture. US Sportsbooks were a lot more pleased when American fans bet on their team to win their other six away matches. That’s because not one of those games was won by the Americans..

With a distinct lack of goals from the American team on their travels, betting on them with sportsbooks to do well in Qatar might look a bit risky. Their first task is to get out of their group and that means finishing at least second. England, Wales and Iran aren’t the toughest draw but it’s not the easiest one either.

The odds are that it’s going to come down to the last match against Iran to decide if the Americans can get into the knockout stages. If the US doesn’t improve their away form, then it may well be a case of beginning the countdown to the 2026 World Cup.

When it comes to the countries most likely to lift the trophy, it’s the usual suspects. Whenever you decide to bet on who’s going to win the World Cup choosing Germany, Brazil, France, Argentina or Spain usually sees you getting a return on your bet. Italy does well too but even after winning the European title, they won’t be in Qatar this winter.

Brazil is the most successful country in the history of the World Cup. No US online betting site would ever consider offering high odds on them to win the tournament. Just one look at the players they have at their disposal shows you why they are the team to beat in Qatar.

Every area of the field has amazing talent, even the defense which isn’t always one you’d bet to keep the opposition out. Players such as Neymar, Coutinho, Fred, Jesus, Silva, Alves, Firmino and Casimero should have US gamblers rushing to place a bet on them to be world champions again,

It’s 2002 since Brazil last reached a World Cup final and they have only won the title twice since that famous 1970 triumph. One of those occasions was in 1994 when the World Cup last came to America. It looks  a good idea to go to an American gambling company to bet on Brazil  but be wary that even the best teams lose sometimes.

Not since Brazil in 1962 has a country retained the World Cup. The last two winners surprised those who had bet on them to do so again by losing in the group stages. Spain and Germany were the guilty parties, but France have done so in the past as well.

They won the last tournament that was held in 2018. Since then, they’ve won the Nations League, but history repeated itself and they lost in the group stages when defending it this year. Those wanting to go to a US sportsbook and  bet on France will hope that that was just a blip but they will be without Paul Pogba which is a blow.

They look a strong team with star players such as Mbappe and Griezmann always being good choices to bet on for anytime goal scorers.. If they can settle into their stride early on, then they will be a team that not many will want to bet against.

Lionel Messi has won everything in the game but a World Cup. Argentina last became world champions in 1986. Even with Messi, they have failed to lift the trophy and Qatar must surely be his last chance to win the trophy.

Germany still haven’t recaptured the form that won them the World Cup in 2014. Going to a US betting site and placing a wager on them to go deep has a chance of being successful.

England have gone 56 years since their only World Cup victory. Bet on the years of hurt continuing after a not very convincing preparation. The US will do well to beat them in the group stages but England have never beaten America in a competitive fixture.

Portugal has Cristiano Ronaldo, another superstar likely to be playing in his last World Cup. They had to go through the play-offs to get this far and only made the last 16 four years ago. Spain are another previous winner still trying to recapture past glories and like Portugal don’t look like a team that could become world champions this year.

The World Cup is the most difficult tournament to win. Betting on the holders hasn’t produced a win in decades. America winning would be the biggest surprise of all-time but hey, in 2026 US sportsbooks will have them at much lower odds.
