Allen ISD Cyber Attack: Hackers trying to blackmail the district

The district does not plan to pay the ransom based on guidance from cybersecurity experts and law enforcement agencies.

Allen, Texas-Allen Independent School District officials said hackers are trying to rob the school district for millions of dollars, but have not yet proven that there is data claiming to access it.

Allen ISD director Robin Brock wrote to his family on Tuesday night, based on guidance from cybersecurity experts and law enforcement agencies, the district does not plan to pay the ransom.

Hackers claimed to have downloaded personal information about students, family and staff during a cyberattack on September 20th.

Brock said the district’s cybersecurity team “gave hackers some opportunities to prove they own this data, but they can’t show evidence of their claims.” rice field.

“There is no evidence that your personal information has been disclosed, but please be aware that Allen ISD takes your privacy and confidentiality seriously,” Brock wrote. “We will continue to investigate this case, and if your sensitive data is taken in this situation, we will contact you.”

Allen officials first learned about the attack last week when the district’s network was cut off, affecting WiFi, printers and phones. The district’s technical department has discovered that the outage was due to a cybersecurity threat.

Allen is the latest North Texas area hit by a cyberattack.

An official at the Dallas Independent School District said earlier this month that electronic records were hacked for cybersecurity breaches. The district said the attack may have affected data on current and former students, alum, parents and district employees. The district contacted federal law enforcement agencies to investigate the attack.

A cyberattack also occurred in the Lancaster Independent School District in June after a hacker used a ransomware attack to dump sensitive information about 500 teachers to the dark web.
