Expedia’s home-sharing units, Airbnb and Vrbo, are working together to combat the recurring criminals of the “Party House.”

The two companies announced on Friday that they are developing a community integrity program, an industry collaboration to share information about deleted lists and enhance behavior against repeat offenders who book rentals just to hold a party.

In a joint release, the two companies said, “The two companies have been working separately to tackle the recurring and destructive partyhouse challenges, but recurring criminals could be delisted from one platform and appear on another. The challenge continues because of the nature. ” ..

“Neighbors don’t care if the party house is getting reservations through a particular platform. They just want to stop the party. So one platform alone can’t solve this problem. Industry-wide It takes effort, “they added. ..

The two companies will work with third-party intermediaries to develop a process to identify a list that is permanently banned from either platform due to repeated violations of their respective community policies. That information will be available to companies to take action when the list pops up on other platforms.

Airbnb and Vrbo are asking other short-term rental companies to join the program. The program will be launched in the United States in the coming months.

So-called “party houses” have long been a problem for short-term rental companies. For example, Airbnb has introduced a global ban on party house houses that repeatedly annoy the neighborhood.

However, the way these companies operate does not always prevent parties from being held. In the absence of the owner, guests may be able to check in to remote properties themselves or invite as many people as they need.

“Industry cooperation is an important step in narrowing the enforcement gap and prioritizing the safety of the communities in which we all operate. This is the first step in building on an important foundation.” Both companies have stated.
