“Absolute Horror” | New details on what investigators say happened in an apartment where children were found alone with their dead siblings

Gloria Williams and her boyfriend Brian Coulter appeared in court Wednesday after her children were placed in CPS custody.

Harris County, Texas — Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzales On Wednesday, murder agents shared new details that they call one of the most horrifying cases of child abandonment in recent years.

“There aren’t many more tough jobs in our institution than those involving abused children,” Gonzales said. “These cases are horrific and tragic cases of abuse and neglect, and they involve the most innocent and defenseless cases in our community.”

Three of Williams’ children were reportedly ignored, and after his eight-year-old son died in an apartment in the Houston area, his mother, Gracie Williams, 35, and her boyfriend. Brian Coulter, 31, is in custody. Both appeared in court on Wednesday.

On Sunday, the sheriff’s office responded to a call for help from a 15-year-old boy who claimed that his eight-year-old brother, Kendrickley, had died in the house for almost a year.

An agent arrived and found a teenager living alone with his 7- and 10-year-old siblings. Investigators said a 10-year-old child was suffering from an untreated jaw that was injured a few weeks ago. He will have surgery. Officials said he was likely injured by his boyfriend.

A teenager reportedly found his brother dead in his bedroom a week before Thanksgiving in 2020. The sheriff’s office said an eight-year-old boy had died from multiple blunt injuries.

In court, officials said a 10-year-old boy was in the room when Coulter beat his younger brother to death and kicked or beat a child in the back and lower areas. He then witnessed Coulter placing a blue blanket over the now-deceased child, the court said.

Williams claims to have confronted Coulter during the assault. According to court documents, she told investigators that she did not report the death of her son because her boyfriend told her not to report. It is believed that Coulter and Williams moved out of the apartment shortly thereafter.

“I think it was an absolute horror,” said HCSO Lieutenant Dennis Wilford when asked why a teenager didn’t call 911 early. “Over time, I think the beatings were consistent and aimed primarily at young children. A 15-year-old child basically expects his mother to contact law enforcement at some point. And I was absolutely afraid to rely on it … and that didn’t happen. “

A teenager told investigators that Coulter could lock him in his bedroom and hear his mother’s boyfriend beating his younger brother, officials said in court.

Since then, the children have been taking care of the CPS.

Wilford said the mother did not appear to have been involved in the physical abuse of her child. Coulter and Williams have been dating for several years, the adjutant said.

“I think both are abusers,” Wilford said. “He is a physical abuser and she is an abbreviated abuser.”

Coulter was charged with murder for the death of a child. He has been given a $ 1 million deposit and is currently detained in a mental health facility.

Meanwhile, the child’s mother has been charged with child injury (human corpse) due to injury to the child, omission and falsification of evidence. She was given a total deposit of $ 900,000.

The sheriff’s office has not confirmed a blood relationship between Coulter and the children. According to Gonzales, the two children have different fathers, one “out of sight” and the other believing that the investigator has died.

According to Gonzales, there are two brothers who are not in the apartment but in another location.

Wilford said the surviving children were malnourished and “very thin.” He said the apartment had no furniture infested with insects and the carpet was dirty. No children have been in school since May 2020.

“I don’t think the two boys were all allowed to leave the apartment,” Wilford said. “They may have been trapped. Perhaps they were trapped in different parts of the apartment.”

Gonzales said he believed the apartment was paid with government support. Investigators said mothers and some neighbors sometimes bring food to their children.

Gonzales said the investigation remains active and may be charged additional fees.
