The Dallas Fire and Rescue Service said crew members responded to the scene after a 911 caller reported a “massive fire across the street” at 11287 Harry Hines Boulevard.

A DFR official told WFAA that a crew member was assigned to the call at 7:01 am on Friday after the 911 caller made the call. 11287 Harry Hines Boulevard “Fire Across the Street”.
When firefighters arrived on the scene, they observed large amounts of smoke billowing from the one-story commercial building, the DFR said. Army Navy Plus, a store that happened to receive a large amount of products the day before. DFR said the cargo was crammed inside the store to keep firefighters away from the fire, which was a defensive effort in the early stages.
Joan Walker and son Bradley run the store that Joan’s husband started 33 years ago. Bradley works the store from opening to closing every day.
“We are in shock right now. I don’t know what to think. I don’t know what will happen,” said Bradley Walker. “I am part of the family.”
The DFR said nearly 100 firefighters were dispatched to the scene using air and ground master streams to control the fire as the flames escalated into four alarm fires as they worked to extinguish the fire. No one was inside the store when the fire broke out, and no injuries were reported, according to the DFR.
“Just a total loss,” said Bradley Walker.
It is estimated that hundreds of thousands of items were in stock at the time of the fire, but some were irreplaceable, such as those belonging to Joan’s husband.
“There was a chair that my husband used to sit on, and his vest was on it, but it’s gone,” she said through tears.
The fire was causing smoke to rise in an area located near Walnut Hill Lane and Interstate 35E.
A Dallas Fire and Rescue engine headed for the fire ran into a ditch, officials said. DFR said the crew were traveling south on Reeder Road and, in an attempt to circumvent traffic, overboarded the shoulder of the road and rolled the engine sideways into a ditch. The DFR said all engine occupants were safely removed from the vehicle and there were no crash-related injuries.
Investigators said preliminary reports indicated the fire most likely started in a location behind the store, but the exact cause is unknown, the DFR said.
