New Brownfels, Texas – A 28-year-old man drowned in the Guadalupe River over the weekend, according to officials from the city of New Braunfels.
New Braunfels police and the New Braunfels Fire Department were called to block 1400 on Gruene Road at 6:05 p.m. on Saturday for possible drowning.
The first responders to the scene said the man was swimming in the river near the bridge over the Gruene River when he fell and did not swim again.
City officials said paramedics found the man and pulled him out of the river after he was under water for about 20 minutes.
The man, who was found to be from Mexico alone, was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The Komal County Magistrate for Pct. 1 Tom Clark has ordered an autopsy, but the drowning appears to be accidental and no dishonest play is suspected, “said New Braunfels media and communications co-ordinator David Ferguson.
The man’s identity is being concealed, pending notification of his relatives.
