The House Judiciary and Ways and Means committees have issued subpoenas to several Federal Bureau of Investigation and Internal Revenue Service officials who were involved in the investigation into Hunter Biden.

The four senior IRS and FBI officials were subpoenaed because it is believed that they had overheard Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss say that he would not be able to charge Hunter Biden outside of Delaware.

The four officials that were named in the subpoenas by the two Republican-led committees are IRS Director of Field Operations Michael Batdorf, IRS Special Agent in Charge Darrell Waldon, Baltimore FBI Special Agent in Charge Tom Sobocinski and Assistant Special Agent in Charge Ryeshia Holley.

The Ways and Means Chairman Jason Smith (R-Mo.), and the House Judiciary committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), released a joint statement in which they said that the committees have “sought these interviews” ever since the allegations about political interference were made.

“Our Committees,” the statement said. “Along with the Committee on Oversight and Accountability, have sought these interviews since IRS whistleblowers came forward with concerning allegations of political interference in the investigation into Hunter Biden’s foreign influence peddling and tax evasion. Unfortunately, the Biden Administration has consistently stonewalled Congress. Our duty is to follow the facts wherever they may lead, and our subpoenas compelling testimony from Biden Administration officials are crucial to understanding how the President’s son received special treatment from federal prosecutors and who was the ultimate decision maker in the case.”

The Chairmen, joined by the House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) had opened an investigation into what they said is widespread, improper interference in the case of Hunter Biden.

In a deposition before the House Ways and Means committee on May 26th, Gary Shapley said that Weiss had told six individuals in 2022 that he could not make the decision to charge Hunter Biden outside of Delaware. He claimed that U.S. Attorneys appointed by President Joe Biden had prevented him from pressing forward with the charges.

That admission contradicted the sworn congressional testimony that was given by Attorney General Merrick Garland in which he stated that Weiss had been given complete authority on whether to pursue any charges against Hunter.

Shapley also alleges that Weiss had said that his efforts to bring charges in multiple jurisdictions were repeatedly denied.

However, both Weiss and the Justice Department have denied all the allegations that have been made by Shapley, who also alleged, along with another IRS employee, that there has been a pattern of “slow-walking investigative steps.”

The subpoena letters that were issued came a just over a week after Garland had appointed Weiss as Special Counsel in the Hunter Biden investigation.
