  • The aircraft crashed into a sandbar, leaving only wreckage.
  • Four of the seven people in one chopper died in the horrific crash
  • Three other women and two boys are fighting for their lives in the hospital.

Four people were killed, three were fighting for their lives, and another was injured as two helicopters collided near the Sea World theme park as vacationers watched in horror.

Debris rained down on Broadwater on the Gold Coast, and the crippled plane spiraled into a sandbar around 2pm local time on Monday.

Queensland Ambulance confirmed four people dead, three fighting for their lives and another four taken to hospital.

A witness told the Daily Mail Australia that one of the helicopters was about to land when it clipped the rotors of another aircraft taking off.

Another eyewitness, Emma Birch, gave the same account of how the accident unfolded.

“From what we saw, one was taking off and the other was landing. They cut each other,” she said.

“A loud bang was heard just outside Broadwater Tourist Park, and the out of control crashed into the water and fell apart.

‘It’s just awful. Everyone is in shock.

One of the helicopters crashed into a sandbar, leaving wreckage on the beach, killing four people, including the pilot, while three others, a woman and two boys, are in critical condition.

Another helicopter landed on a nearby sandbar with six people on board.

Queensland Ambulance said there were 13 patients in total, six in one helicopter and seven in another.

Volunteer Marine Corps Rescue Southport Duty Captain Matt Fitzpatrick said three units were dispatched to the scene.

“There are multiple helicopters involved and we don’t know the condition of the people on board,” he said.

Photos showed that at least one of the two choppers (the one that landed without crashing) was a SeaWorld helicopter tour plane.

Witnesses expressed shock at the mid-air collision.

“I heard a bang and saw smoke billowing from one of the helicopters. It smoked and teetered to the ground,” an eyewitness told the Daily Mail Australia.

“Someone was asking if it was part of the Sea World show.”

Paramedics rushed to the wreckage in hopes of finding survivors, but grave fear remains among everyone on board – believed to be three in total.

A distraught woman and child were seen on the helipad while parts of the theme park were closed and patrons were unable to see the crash site.

Others said it was “beyond terrifying” to watch the accident unfold.

“My daughter saw them.

“We heard loud noises and saw debris flying,” wrote another user online.
