2nd place Baylor wins 77-72 and remains undefeated

Waco, Texas – Adam Flagler scored the season’s highest 22 points, Jared Butler scored 15 out of 18 points after halftime, and second-place Baylor finally overcame the rust of a three-week break at Iowa State University. Won 77-72 on Tuesday night. Withstand 18-0 for the first time in school history.

The Bears (18-0, 10-0 Big 12) played for the first time since winning 83-69 at the time-no. 6 Texas got off to a great start on February 2nd in school history. After that, due to a problem with COVID-19 in the program, it was postponed for 6 games in a row, and I didn’t even practice completely until Sunday.

Iowa State University (2-17, 0-14) jumped to a 15-4 lead within six and a half minutes with a Trejackson jumper. Their biggest lead was 32-15 when Harris made the fourth 3 pointer of the game, leaving 6:24 in the first half.

Tyler Harris scored 22 points against the cyclone with five three points, Rasil Bolton scored 21 points, and Jaylen Coleman Land scored 13 points.


The Bears did not lead until Masio Teague made two free throws, leaving 4:26 to gain the advantage of 66-65. They never dragged, but after Jalen Coleman-Lands did tying 3 with 2:53 left, they needed a go-ahead basket by Teague. Teague and Butler combined the last nine Baylor points.

Teague finished with 14 points and Mark Vital recorded 15 rebounds.

This is Baylor’s closest game of the season, winning at least 8 points in all previous games and only two games were decided with less than 10 points.

Butler hit two threes in the first 1:15 of the second half, keeping Baylor within 39-38. The Bears regained the ball after Mitchell rebounded Harris’ bad shot. They scored four shots in their next possession, but couldn’t drop anything before Iowa State University regained the ball in alternate possessions after the ball held in another rebound.

After joining the game second with an average of 17 points in the Big 12, Butler made three turnovers and took only one shot before halftime.


Outstanding guards made several featureless mistakes, including a turnover in an inbound breach shortly after Flo Thamba pulled a charge to give Baylor the ball. The crowd was still crowded with Thamba’s two-handed slams.

Iowa State University quickly took advantage of Butler’s miscue on Bolton’s short jumper, gaining a 20-8 lead on subsequent inbound passes.


Iowa State University will play TCU on Saturday.

Baylor will play in 17th Kansas on Saturday and will play three make-up games over the next six days.
