The main venue for the 2021 Harbin Ice and Snow Festival, the vast “Ice and Snow Kingdom”, built entirely of local ice blocks, opened its doors to visitors on Thursday.

Harbin, with a population of about 1 million, is the capital of Heilongjiang Province near the border between China and Russia.

It is called “Moscow in the Far East” because of the great influence of Russia on the construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway in the early 20th century.

The famous annual festival of everything in winter begins in 1985 and celebrates its 37th edition in 2021.

The magnificent ice kingdom, officially known as the world of ice and snow, was founded in 1998 and has been the festival’s greatest jewel ever since.

The iridescent wonderland occupies 148 acres, a little larger than Hyde Park in London.

The 2021 Harbin Ice and Snow Festival will begin on January 5th. The photo above shows people visiting the world of ice and snow on the opening day of December 24th in Harbin, northwestern China.

It is called “Moscow in the Far East” because of Russia’s great influence on the construction of the Trans-Siberian Railway in the early 20th century.

The centerpiece of the kingdom is called the “City of Ice”.

Inspired by the shape of the crystal pillars, the striking frozen skyscraper is 40 meters (131 feet) high and is the same height as a 12-story office building.

The organizers have also created eight giant ice slides that are constantly popular with visitors over the past few years.

The 2021 Harbin Ice and Snow Festival begins on January 5th and lasts for about a month. Its exact end date depends on when the ice begins to melt.
